The Honest Framework
AppleCare+ is insurance. Like all insurance, the decision depends on three factors: the cost of the plan, the likelihood of a claim, and the cost of repair without coverage.
Plan Cost
AppleCare+ for MacBook: ₹16,900–34,900 for 2 years. For iPhone: ₹7,900–21,900 for 2 years. Each accidental damage claim has an additional service fee of ₹2,900–14,900 per incident.
Claim Probability
How likely are you to damage your device? Frequent commuters, students, those using devices in humid/monsoon conditions, and anyone who has previously damaged a device should weight this higher.
Repair Cost Without Coverage
MacBook Pro screen: ₹15,000–25,000. MacBook board: ₹6,000–20,000 (with us) vs ₹40,000–80,000 (Apple). iPhone Pro screen: ₹7,000–12,000. These numbers drive the decision.

What AppleCare+ Doesn't Cover in India
Before you buy, know the exclusions.
Theft or Loss
Unlike AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss in the US and some markets, AppleCare+ in India does NOT cover stolen or lost devices. If your iPhone is stolen in Mumbai, AppleCare+ provides no compensation.
Cosmetic Damage
Scratches, dents, and worn finishes that don't affect function are not covered. A scuffed MacBook case or a scratched iPhone back won't be replaced under AppleCare+.
Battery Degradation
AppleCare+ only covers battery replacement if capacity drops below 80% of original. If your battery is at 82% and holds 3 hours instead of 10, that's not covered — even though it's functionally failing.
Unauthorized Modifications
Any prior third-party repair voids AppleCare+ coverage for that component. If you've had your screen replaced by an independent shop, AppleCare+ won't cover that screen for subsequent damage.
Mumbai-Specific Factors for the AppleCare+ Decision
The Monsoon Factor
Mumbai's June–September monsoon makes liquid damage significantly more likely than in drier cities. If you commute by local train, auto, or walk in heavy rain, the probability of water damage to your phone or laptop is meaningfully higher. AppleCare+ does cover accidental liquid damage (with a service fee). This tilts the calculation toward 'worth it' for active Mumbai commuters.
The Transport Factor
Mumbai's commute — crowded local trains, auto-rickshaws, bouncy roads — exposes devices to more physical stress than typical urban use. Screens crack in crowded trains. MacBooks get bumped on auto journeys. If you carry your device daily across Mumbai, your accidental damage probability is above average.
The Independent Repair Cost Advantage
Mumbai has skilled independent Apple repair specialists — including Mac Repair Center — who charge 40–60% less than Apple for the same repair. This reduces the financial risk of going without AppleCare+. For people willing to use independent repair, the break-even point for AppleCare+ shifts significantly higher.
Our Recommendation
For MacBook Pro 14" and 16" users: consider AppleCare+. A single accidental screen replacement at Apple (₹20,000+) can exceed the entire plan cost. For MacBook Air and iPhone 13–14 users in desk jobs: AppleCare+ is usually not worth it. Independent repair for common faults costs less than the plan premium + service fee over 2 years.
Common Questions
Can I buy AppleCare+ in India after purchase?
Yes — Apple allows you to purchase AppleCare+ within 60 days of buying your Apple device in India. After 60 days, you cannot add it. You can purchase online at apple.com/in or at any Apple Authorized Reseller.
If I've had my MacBook repaired independently, can I still use AppleCare+?
AppleCare+ won't cover the independently-repaired component, but covers other eligible damage. So if you had your battery replaced by us and later crack your screen, AppleCare+ should still cover the screen repair. However, Apple may inspect the device and decline coverage if they determine the independent repair caused the subsequent damage.
Does AppleCare+ cover MacBook liquid damage in India?
Yes — liquid damage is covered as accidental damage under AppleCare+, subject to the per-incident service fee (₹8,900–14,900 for MacBook). Whether this is cheaper than independent repair depends on the model. For MacBook Air, our liquid damage repair starting at ₹2,500 is often cheaper than the AppleCare+ service fee alone.
My device is already damaged — can I still buy AppleCare+?
No. You must purchase AppleCare+ before damage occurs, and the device must pass Apple's inspection at time of purchase. If you have an existing crack or liquid damage, you cannot purchase AppleCare+ until the damage is repaired first.
