An iPhone that won't turn on fails to respond to the power button — no Apple logo, no screen, no vibration feedback. The cause is typically a completely discharged battery, a software crash requiring a forced restart, a logic board fault, or liquid damage. Free diagnosis at Mac Repair Center takes 20 minutes and covers the full power pathway from battery to display, giving you a firm repair quote before any paid work begins.

A completely dead iPhone is one of the most common repair scenarios we see in Mumbai. iPhones are used relentlessly — dropped, exposed to monsoon rain, left uncharged, dropped again. When an iPhone simply stops responding, the reasons can range from trivial (needs a 10-minute charge and a force restart) to serious (logic board fault). The critical thing is not to panic — and not to keep pressing buttons repeatedly, which can drain the remaining battery charge further. Bring it to Mac Repair Center for free diagnosis and we'll know in 20 minutes exactly what's wrong.

iPhone Won't Turn On — The 5 Most Common Causes

Before assuming the worst, check the most common causes: 1. Completely Discharged Battery: An iPhone left at 0% for hours or days may not respond immediately when plugged in. Plug it in with a known-good Apple cable and wait 10–15 minutes before pressing the power button. If the battery is deeply discharged, it needs time to build up enough charge to start. 2. Software Crash / Frozen State: iOS can occasionally freeze in a state where the screen is black but the phone isn't fully off. A forced restart breaks this state. For iPhone 8 and later: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). 3. Failed Battery: A battery whose protection circuit has failed won't accept charge and won't power the phone even with a charger connected. Battery replacement is the fix (₹1,800–4,500). 4. Liquid Damage: Water, rain, or monsoon humidity can cause a short circuit on the logic board that prevents startup. If the iPhone was exposed to liquid before it stopped working, mention this during diagnosis — it changes the repair approach. 5. Logic Board Fault: A failed power management IC or blown fuse on the logic board prevents startup even with a good battery and charger. Component-level repair at ₹3,500–9,000.

Forced Restart for Every iPhone Model

Before bringing your iPhone in, try a forced restart. This resolves a software freeze without erasing data: iPhone 8 and later (iPhone 8, SE 2nd/3rd gen, X, XR, XS, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16): 1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button 2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button 3. Press and hold the Side (power) button until the Apple logo appears 4. The logo may take up to 10 seconds to appear — keep holding iPhone 7 / 7 Plus: Hold Volume Down + Power (Side) button together for 10 seconds until Apple logo appears iPhone 6s and older (SE 1st gen): Hold Home + Power (Top/Side) button together for 10 seconds until Apple logo appears If the Apple logo appears and the phone boots normally: it was a software freeze. If nothing happens after trying the forced restart with a known-good charger plugged in: bring it in for free diagnosis.

iPhone Stuck on Apple Logo — What This Means

If your iPhone shows the Apple logo but never completes booting, this is different from a phone that won't turn on at all. An iPhone stuck on the Apple logo is: A software fault in 90% of cases: An interrupted iOS update, a corrupted system file, or a full storage issue. This is resolved through a DFU restore using iTunes/Finder on a Mac or PC. A DFU restore erases the phone — make sure you have a recent iCloud backup. A hardware fault in 10% of cases: A failing storage chip or logic board fault that prevents iOS from loading. Requires board-level diagnosis. At Mac Repair Center, we attempt DFU restore first (free, takes 20 minutes). If the phone passes DFU restore but gets stuck again, we proceed to hardware diagnosis. We guide you through backup recovery from iCloud after the repair.

iPhone Won't Turn On After Mumbai Monsoon

iPhones from iPhone 7 onwards are rated IP67 or IP68 — splash and dust resistant, but not indefinitely waterproof. After exposure to Mumbai's monsoon rain: What IP68 means in practice: iPhone 15 Pro is rated IP68 to 6 meters for 30 minutes. Real-world monsoon exposure — heavy rain, water pooling in pockets, flooded streets — can exceed this. Seals degrade over time: IP ratings are tested on new devices. After 1–2 years of daily use and drops, the seals around the port and SIM tray degrade. A 2-year-old iPhone is not as waterproof as a brand-new one. What to do immediately: Power the iPhone off (hold Side + Volume Down, then slide to power off). Do not charge it. Bring it in immediately for professional liquid damage assessment. The faster you act, the better the recovery rate. We handle iPhone liquid damage with ultrasonic cleaning of the logic board and component-level repair. Even iPhones that won't turn on at all after water exposure have a good recovery rate if treated within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Try a forced restart first (Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Side button for 10 seconds). If that doesn't work, plug in a known-good Apple cable and wait 15 minutes. If still nothing, bring it in for free diagnosis.

Diagnosis is free. Software recovery costs ₹500–1,500. Battery replacement costs ₹1,800–4,500. Logic board repair costs ₹3,500–9,000. We quote before any paid work.

Probably not. An iPhone that ran fully flat may need 10–20 minutes on the charger before responding. Use an Apple cable and charger (or a quality USB-C cable). If it still doesn't respond after 20 minutes, bring it in for free diagnosis.

Apple's warranty doesn't cover liquid damage, even on IP-rated phones. However, AppleCare+ does cover water damage (with a service fee). We can repair liquid-damaged iPhone 15s independently at ₹2,500–12,000 depending on extent of damage.

If your data was backed up to iCloud, your photos are safe — we restore from iCloud after repair. If not backed up, we attempt data recovery from the device. iPhone data recovery is more complex than MacBook recovery due to encryption, but is possible in many cases.

Usually it's a software boot loop — resolved with a DFU restore. In a minority of cases, it's a hardware fault. Bring it in for free diagnosis. We attempt DFU restore first at no charge before escalating to hardware diagnosis.
