Dhanteras 2026: Should You Buy an iPhone, MacBook, or Apple Watch This Year?

By Shrey Sharma, Founder & Lead Technician · March 2026
Dhanteras is traditionally the best day to buy electronics in India. But which Apple product is worth buying in October 2026 — and which should you wait on? A practical guide for Mumbai buyers.

Dhanteras — the two days before Diwali — is the traditional auspicious day for purchasing valuables in India. Electronics purchases on Dhanteras have grown massively over the past decade, and Apple products feature prominently in festive-season buying decisions across Mumbai. As the people who repair these devices after purchase, we have a different view of which products hold up and which ones generate avoidable repair bills. Here's our practical Dhanteras 2026 guide.
iPhone 16 — Buy Now or Wait?
The iPhone 16 launched in September 2026, making Dhanteras 2026 the first festive season with iPhone 16 available. Our recommendation: buy now if you're on an iPhone 12 or older. The performance gap from older iPhones to the A18 chip is significant — apps load faster, camera AI features work better, and the USB-C port is a real quality-of-life improvement.
If you're on an iPhone 13 or 14, the upgrade is less compelling — the camera improvements are real but not dramatic, and the A18 chip won't noticeably change daily use. Wait for the iPhone 17 next September unless you have a specific reason to upgrade now.
MacBook — Which Model and Why
MacBooks don't go on significant sale during Dhanteras — Apple's pricing is relatively stable through authorised resellers. That said, Dhanteras is a good time to buy if you need a MacBook, because:
- MacBook Air M3 (13-inch, ₹1,14,900 — ₹1,29,900): The right laptop for most people. M3 chip handles everything from everyday use to photo editing, video calls, and coding. The 15-inch Air (₹1,34,900) is worth the premium if you work on a large screen and don't want to buy a separate monitor.
- MacBook Pro 14-inch M4 Pro: For professionals who need sustained performance — video editors, developers, data scientists. Significantly more expensive but a real workhorse. Festive EMI offers make the price more manageable.
- MacBook Air M2 (still available, clearance pricing during festive): If budget is the priority, a clearance M2 Air at ₹90,000–₹1,00,000 with festive discounts is excellent value. M2 will be supported by Apple for the next 7+ years.
- What to avoid: Older Intel MacBooks sold 'new' by grey-market resellers during festive season. If the price seems too good, verify the model year and Apple India warranty registration.
Apple Watch — Series 10, Ultra 2, or SE?
- Apple Watch SE (₹29,900): The right buy for first-time Apple Watch users and for gifting. Fitness tracking, notifications, heart rate — all the essentials. If it gets damaged, it's affordable to replace.
- Apple Watch Series 10 (₹46,900 onwards): A meaningful upgrade over SE — larger OLED display, crash detection, ECG, blood oxygen. Worth it if health monitoring is a priority.
- Apple Watch Ultra 2 (₹89,900): Built for serious outdoor athletes and divers. For Mumbai users who aren't doing multi-day trekking or diving regularly, this is significant overkill. The SE or Series 10 is better value.
AirPods and iPad — Yes or No?
- AirPods Pro 2 (₹24,900): The festive sale cashback offers on AirPods Pro 2 often bring it to ₹21,000–₹22,000 effective. At that price, they're genuinely worth it — excellent ANC, spatial audio, and a solid upgrade from older AirPods.
- iPad (10th gen, ₹34,900): If you need a tablet for reading, light work, or streaming, the 10th-gen iPad with USB-C is good value. The iPad Air is better for creative work; the iPad Pro is for professionals.
- Accessories worth buying on Dhanteras: MagSafe charger, good quality USB-C cables (Anker, Belkin — not cheap unbranded ones), AirTag (4-pack deals appear in festive sales).
Whatever you buy on Dhanteras — put it in a quality case immediately. The first week with a new device is when most screen cracks happen (unfamiliar handling, excitement, new form factor). A ₹500–₹1,500 case on a ₹1,20,000 MacBook or ₹80,000 iPhone is one of the best investments you'll make.
Repair Your Old Device Before Buying New — Or After.
If your current MacBook or iPhone is working but damaged, repairing it might be a better Dhanteras investment than buying new.
